Trellises in bar form
Tomato plants have no adhesion organs. In order for the tendrils to climb up and not grow on the ground, they are fixed to rods with wire, raffia, twine or staples. The uncomplicated use is advantageous. The planting rods must only be inserted deeply enough into the soil, so that they do not wobble. The cumulative weight in the course of growth should also be able to withstand the climbing aids. These planting rods are suitable:

Cost-conscious hobby gardeners do not invest in a finished trellis aid, but build it without further ado in the bed or greenhouse themselves. For this they use the struts of the roof construction in the greenhouse. In the field, stable wooden posts are beaten into the ground at the beds. Each individual rope thus acts as a climbing aid in that the main drive is piled up in turns. The binding material is broad bast band, soft sisal cords, velcro straps, gauze bandages or old clothes cut into strips. It is important to note that the materials do not cut into the tomato shoots.
Tips & Tricks
Reusable trellises are dangerous breeding grounds for viruses, fungal spores and pests. It is therefore essential to carefully disinfect them before each use. Otherwise dreaded diseases will suddenly strike, like brown rot.
