There are reasons enough to replant a shrub. Be it that the shrub has become too big for the old site or that you want to use the place differently. Most shrubs will survive a careful repositioning.
Do all shrubs undergo transplanting?
Some bushes do not like transplanting, such as the bark (bot. Genista). Other shrubs are less sensitive. In general, however, young shrubs tolerate the implementation better than old ones. Fully mature, several years old shrubs should not be transplanted at all.
When is the best time to transplant shrubs?
It is best to plant your shrubs in late winter or early spring before starting the re-emergence, ideally before April. Choose a frost-free day for this work. Night frosts will not damage the freshly transplanted shrub, but you can hardly dig up a shrub on frozen ground.
Even the months of August and September are considered a good time for transplanting shrubs. But then it should not be too warm anymore, also the flowering time has to be finished. With evergreen shrubs, it should be noted that they can root well until winter. In the case of everyone, the best way to do it is during the resting phase on a covered day.
What do I have to consider when transplanting?
The root ball of a shrub has usually about the same extent as the aboveground plant parts, the "crown". This should be remembered when digging. Carefully dig out the bale, preferably without damaging the roots.
So that the bale does not dry up, you should work quickly and plant the shrub soon. Water the freshly planted shrub thoroughly, also in the next few months.
