Sprouts are delicious, nutrient-rich and thrive on the windowsill in every season

Making sprouts yourself - nutrients from the windowsill

Fresh seasonal vegetables, apart from the various types of cabbage, is becoming increasingly rare in these weeks, although our organism, especially in winter, has an increased need for defense-enhancing vitamin diet and its energy requirement is correspondingly high. Therefore, germ sprouts are particularly well suited to provide us with the many vital, phytochemicals that occur almost exclusively in fresh and raw vegetables.

The sprouts, also called seedlings or seedlings, are basically nothing more than the young sprouts of cereal or vegetable plants, of which we know many, for example of radishes, mung beans, radish, alfalfa or soy from the cultivation in the field. The rearing itself is very easy.

Sprouts from own cultivation

The seed for baby vegetables is unusually rich. Usually enough for a vessel already two tablespoons of sprout seeds, which are filled into a purchased germination device or distributed on a household shell. A little tip in between: Even our miniature greenhouses, which we present in the garden journal, are ideal for the rearing of sprouts! As a base for the seeds well-moistened kitchen paper is already enough. The germination times vary depending on the type of vegetables and amount to between four and ten days.

Proper sprout rearing in short form

A lot of variety on the menu

Whether spring salad with sprouts and seeds, Asian noodles, sprouts in the pizza bread nest or together with pike-perch fillet, the mini-vegetables with the green leaves knows how to prepare and tastes delicious. Those who start sprouting for the first time are often appalled by the tiny, white hairs that form in some species, mainly at the root of cress and radish sprouts. However, these are harmless water-searching roots and not the suspected mold, which would otherwise spread over the entire seed and not just form at the roots.

Special features of sprout seeds

The best and healthiest breeding results are achieved with organically grown organic germination seeds that are free from synthetic vitamin supplements, fillers, preservatives and animal ingredients. Many of the commercially available seedlings are unpeeled and suitable only for the production of sprouts. The standard container size for the organic seed is 500 grams, the prices per 100 grams between 1.50 and 2.00 euros, the pleasure factor, however, moves at 200 percent, so each 100 percent for vegan and the unmistakable good taste. You will appreciate the self-minis quickly, even if they do not reach the size of the Barbaras branches, which we will devote to the following.
