Fight unwanted ribwort in the garden
Plantain (Plantago lanceolata) has been a valued medicinal plant for centuries and can also be used in many recipes. In the lawn, the herb can also quickly become a weed, as it can multiply greatly in case of wrong treatment.
Combat the ribwort plantain with weed killers
In certain locations with the temperate soil conditions, plantain can multiply strongly, making the plant a valuable ingredient in feed meadows for horses and rabbits. It is basically possible to combat the ribwort plantain in the garden lawn together with other herbs and weeds with herbicides. However, you should use this chemical weed killer only if alternative countermeasures have been fruitless and there are no adjacent vegetable patches and fruit trees for consumption.
Pick ribwort plant mechanically and thoughtfully
With the right strategy, you can also mechanically fight overflowing stocks of ribwort in the sward. First and foremost, stop self-sowing of plants after flowering in summer. Mow your lawn regularly from spring on to a relatively low cutting height, so that not even inflorescences can form. If you mow the withered ribwort only in the summer, then they contribute even more to a further distribution of the seeds. If you can not avoid this, then you should at least use a lawn shred box for mowing and compost it away from the lawn.
Brush ribwort by hand and process
