Camellias have to stand very bright. 16 hours of light per day are ideal. Direct sunlight does not tolerate the plants. This would burn the leaves.

Camellias like a soil with a low PH value, similar to rhododendrons or azaleas. So-called Moorbeeterde can be bought in specialist shops.

You can also mix the soil yourself with compost, peat or potting soil and some clay. Pine soil can be found under fir, pine or spruce.

Waterlogged camellias do not tolerate waterlogging at all. Make sure you have a good drainage in the bucket.

The flowering period in the house lasts from December to February. For a vigorous and long-lasting flowering, the plant should not be warmer than at 16 degrees.

Can the camellia be multiplied?

The propagation of Camellia japonica is via cuttings that you cut in August. The shoots must not be woody and should have a length of 10 to 15 centimeters.

The cuttings are inserted into substrate and brought to the roots at 25 degrees under foil.
