Cut off blooming flowers better in the summer lilac
The summer or even butterfly lilac (Buddleja) is a variegated shrub or subshrub that blooms abundantly during the summer months, while it smells intensely and provides valuable food for numerous insects such as butterflies, bumblebees and wild bees. However, the plant tends to self-seeding, which is why cutting off the flowers makes sense.
Prevent seed formation
There are numerous Buddleja varieties that vary in size and width, also develop different flower colors of white and cream on different shades of pink to dark purple and even violet blue. All varieties bloom very abundantly - and also lavishly produce seeds, which in turn produce countless offspring. So that you do not have to constantly tear them out - which are also not pure-bred and usually resemble the Asian wild form - you cut off the decayed blooms during the flowering period between June / July and October (depending on the variety) whenever possible. Use a sharp and clean pruner.
Tips
Incidentally, you can use the stems for pure cuttings propagation, in which case you have to separate the flower from the shoot.
