Common diseases and pests of chives
Usually, chives are rarely infested with fungi or pest insects - it is often even recommended to plant chives along with endangered flowers to prevent such infestations. However, infestation can not always be avoided with this actually resistant herb, whereby weakened plants are particularly endangered.
Chives turn yellow
The most common health problem with chives is yellowing, dry leaves. Of course, these can no longer be used in the kitchen and they multiply quickly. For this reason, you should act as soon as possible at the first sign. In most cases, the chive turns yellow because it is too dry or too hot.In this case, countermeasures are simple: water the plant more frequently and protect it from excessive sunlight. Sometimes, however, the chives are also too wet, so that the roots rot and the subterranean parts of plants can no longer provide.

Especially in humid and cool summers, the leaves of chives are attacked by the rust mushroom "Puccinia alli", the so-called chive rust. They recognize an infestation of the small, round and rust-red spots on the leaf tubes. Cut the diseased plant just above the ground and pour it with a diluted nettle.
Aphids - the gardener's favorite enemy
On the other hand, aphids are rarely found on chives. If, then, the unwanted animals infest especially pot chives on the balcony or on the window sill - these plants are usually not as robust as planted chives, in addition, the lice in these cases, a limited food supply and colonize the chive therefore from sheer distress. Aphids are best combated with nettle stock.

Tips & Tricks
Do not treat chives (as well as other kitchen herbs) with chemicals, otherwise the herb will not be consumed. In case of doubt, cut the stalks to just above the ground - chives drift quickly again.
