Gerbera has withered in the pot - what can be done about it?
No gerbera plant will bloom forever. That does not matter if new flowers are constantly developing. It only becomes problematic when new buds dry up before flowering or no more flowers are produced. In most cases it is due to incorrect care.
Maintain gerbera in the pot properly
Gerbera is one of the most sensitive houseplants. For errors in care or location, it reacts with dried flowers and is easy.
The right location
Gerbera thrives only in a location that fulfills many conditions:
In the flower window it is not so easy to fulfill all conditions. Above all, the place should not be too warm. The sun is shining at lunchtime. Also, she does not like it when she is too close to the wall or next to other plants. However, you do not get any draft.
It is best if you bring the houseplant outdoors in the summer. Place them on the balcony or terrace in a bright, airy, sheltered spot. For wintering a place on a cool, but frost-free corridor window is a good alternative.
Sufficient but not too much water
As a tropical plant the gerbera needs sufficient moisture. The earth should never dry out completely. Waterlogging should never occur.
Always pour gerbera from below and place the pot a little bit higher in a coaster. Then excess water can run better.
Especially if the temperatures inside or outside are very high, it helps to moisten the potted plant daily with water from a spray bottle.
Fertilize - but carefully
Fertilize the Gerbera regularly once a week. But take less fertilizer than recommended on the packaging. An excess of nutrients does not tolerate the plant and reacts by drying up the flowers.
Tips & Tricks
Older gerbera plants in the pot no longer bloom as extensively as young plants. Collect seeds in good time or divide the roots so that you can always plant abundantly flowering plants in the flower window.
