False cypresses like it sunny or at least partially shady. In a dark and shady location, the trees remain small and feeble.
You can also grow low blight cypresses in buckets or as bonsai.
How should the soil be?
Prepare the planting hole by incorporating mature compost or horn shavings into the soil. Very solid soil will loosen up sand. For damp floors you should provide drainage.
Which planting distance must be observed?
As an individual plant the false cypress should be available three square meters. When planting as a hedge, the ideal planting distance is 50 centimeters. If the hedge is to remain very low, 30 centimeters are enough.
How far the false cypress must be from neighboring properties depends on the responsible municipality.
When planting near buildings, keep a distance of at least two meters.
When is the best planting time?
Like all trees, you can plant cypress trees best in autumn to early October. You can put containerware all year round if you water the plants regularly.
Can false cypress be transplanted?
Transplanting is possible until the age of about four years. Older cypress trees should no longer be used because it is almost impossible to dig up the whole root ball.
How are false cypresses multiplied?
The propagation takes place by sowing or cuttings.

The cypress stands alone, it works best when it has a lot of space around it. In hedges it is compatible with many other hedge plants such as thuja, snow jasmine or hornbeam.
Are false cypresses poisonous?
Mock cypresses are poisonous in all parts of plants, for humans and animals. They should therefore only be planted out of reach of children, pets or grazing animals.
Tips
There are about ten different types of false cypress in the trade. They differ mainly by the color of the needles. So you can plant blue cypress trees or opt for light green or darker varieties.
