The flowering time of the beech is relatively short. The flowers are very inconspicuous and can only be seen if the gardener looks closely. Beech trees bloom in some years only very little, in others over-abundant.

European beeches begin to flower in late April. They are einhäusig, so carry female and male flowers on a tree. The flowering period lasts only a few weeks and is over by the end of May at the latest.
Many years pass before a red beech flowers for the first time. Only at the age of 15 to 20 years, the first inflorescences form.
Fruits emerge from the flowers even later. Beech bees become manageable at the age of 40 and only then develop germinable fruits, the slightly poisonous beechnuts.
Tips
Beech trees are not grown in parks and gardens because of their flowers, but because of their fast growing and the leaves. Especially the fall foliage offers a very decorative sight.
