Common pests on rosemary and their control
A pest infestation on rosemary shows especially after a too dry winter. Improper wintering weakens the plant, making it vulnerable to infestation. However, the different types of lice, flies and mites are usually quite easy to combat: immerse the rosemary under water for about 15 minutes (but not the roots!) And keep the air as moist as possible for several days, eg. For example, cover the plant with a perforated plastic bag.

Plant lice are considered the ultimate pest ghosts. Rosemary is mainly attacked by leaf but also by wool and mealybugs.

Aphids sit on the underside of leaves, where they suck juice and excrete what they can not use again as a sticky mass. New shoots and leaves can be damaged, crippling the infested plants. Aphid attack is often accompanied by Russtaubelag, as this fungus lives on the honeydew excreted by aphids.
Wool and mealybugs
An infestation with shield, woolly or mealybugs shows by a weakened plant growth and by a crust of innumerable labels on the wood. These lice suck the sap and excrete a sticky mass, which is preferably populated by Rußtaupilz. They recognize the fungal attack by a greasy, black coating on leaves and stems. An organic control can be done with the help of soft soap, with which the affected areas are washed off.

A spider mite infestation is characterized by small, whitish spots on the leaves. The leaves often turn lead gray to bronze. The mites themselves are very small, reddish colored animals. Mites love dry air, which is why you can usually cope with a very high humidity. Also thrips, often known as thunderstorms, occur especially in too much drought.
White flies on rosemary
The tiny white flies are usually white dots that appear at the bottom of the leaves. In addition, the leaves are spotted and turn yellow. Like the plant lice, the white fly also secretes a sugary secretion, which promotes colonization with the soot dew. It occurs more often in warm, humid summers. Affected leaves should be removed immediately. Then the whole plant is treated with a soft soap solution.
Tips & Tricks
Pests can also be controlled biologically effective by the use of beneficial insects. Use predatory mites against spider mites, parasitic wasps against whiteflies, lacewings against aphids and thrips and ladybirds against leaf-, wool- and mealybugs.
