What to look for in the care of roses in the pot
Roses not only decorate small and large gardens, but can also be cultivated in large tubs over many years. However, to ensure that you enjoy your flowers for a long time, you should - following a well-considered selection of suitable varieties - cultivate them in an appropriate way.
Bed and mini roses are ideal
So that you have as much as possible on the balcony and terrace, the potted roses in question should bloom more often, not too big and smell. Beet and dwarf roses are ideal: They are compact, flowering and do not get too high. You can also choose among the shrub and climbing roses, if they are not too vigorous. Your choice will be limited mainly by the size of the pots. Roses are deep rooters and therefore need deep vessels. Ideal for rose pots is a size of 70 x 70 centimeters, whereby you can use both pots made of wood or frosted terracotta, but also plastic containers. Only the dwarf roses, which have a flatter root system, keep it out in window boxes.

The ideal location
To grow and thrive healthy, all roses need a suitable location and a favorable microclimate. Most important is a warm and sunny location with at least four to five hours of sunshine per day. The optimum space should be protected against strong wind, but the air still has to circulate - locations with heat accumulation promote pest infestation and diseases. A little breeze should blow so, but a drafty corner is rather not suitable. South-east and south-west plains are particularly suitable for keeping potted roses, whereas pure southern plains (especially if the plant is then directly in front of a white wall) can cause leaf and flower burns.
Plant roses in the pot and repot
Plant the roses in the tub in a special rose substrate that is exactly tailored to the needs of the flowers. Also very important is a drainage layer of potsherds over the vent holes, so that they do not clog. On top you fill about 10 centimeters high pebbles or expanded clay. After three years, the soil should be completely replaced, but you should cut back both the roots and the shoots.
Tips
Place the bucket on feet (made of terra cotta, for example) so that the water can drain off better and the roses do not get "wet feet".
