Freeze leftovers: raclette cheese
For a convivial evening, a hearty raclette is the perfect meal. Often, however, raclette cheese is left over. Luckily, you can easily freeze it and, at a later date, organize an extensive raclette meal again.
Slice raclette cheese into slices
When raclette leftover cheese is usually sliced. Although the raclette cheese in this form dries faster and loses its aroma, it is still possible to freeze it slice by slice and thaw only the required amount if necessary:
- Label a freezer made of plastic or stainless steel with the date of freezing and the contents. Take the fresh and well-cooled raclette cheese and place between the slices of sandwich paper. So the cheese slices do not stick together and you can later easily remove the required amount. Place the raclette cheese in the freezer-safe container and close it carefully. Place the can at -18 ° C in the *** freezer. Here the cheese stays fresh for about three months.
Freeze raclette cheese in one piece
If you've got the spicy raclette cheese in one piece, that's ideal for freezing, as it stays fresh and aromatic for longer. Pack the cheese piece in a labeled freezer bag or a refrigerated box and seal the container airtight. It will last for at least three months in the *** freezer. The longer the cheese is stored, the more it loses aroma.
If you do not want to use the cheese for a raclette, but, for example, for gratinating, you can simply rub the required amount of cheese from the frozen raclette cheese and put the rest back in the freezer.
Thaw raclette cheese
Cheese should be given enough time to defrost: best placed in the refrigerator in the unopened freezer the night before. If he is not completely thawed at the time of raclette eating, that's not bad. The thawed raclette cheese will melt in the pans and taste fresh from the cheese counter.
If anything remains of the thawed raclette cheese, you should not freeze it again. Although no health risks are to be feared, the cheese will have only little taste and a negatively changed consistency after re-thawing.
