Many garden lovers and hobby gardeners do not only want to equip their garden with "finished" flowers and perennials, but prefer to sow and grow their own plants. This is very easy to create in the phlox and in a great variety of colors.
Should I collect or buy seeds?
You can buy Phlox seeds or even collect them yourself. However, keep in mind that the seeds you get directly from the plants in your garden are not true to the species. In other words, the awakened flame flowers will not necessarily have the same flower color as the original plant. If you love surprises, you will still enjoy it.
On the other hand, if you want a certain flower color or growth habit, then you can access the seeds from specialist retailers. There you will find an impressive selection of seeds for annual and perennial phlox. While the perennial varieties are mostly monochrome, you can also enjoy the annual varieties with star-shaped or multi-colored flowers.
Sow phlox
Phlox is one of the cold germs. First, the seeds need a cooler temperature to germinate at all. You do not have to worry about purchased seeds. Even collected seeds can be stored in the fridge for a few days, or they can be left to nature with their temperature fluctuations, sow and wait for the seeds to germinate by themselves. This will happen at the latest next spring.
Since the flaming flower sprouts very easily, you can simply sprinkle the seeds into the provided flowerbed and wait. Do not cut off the blooming inflorescences, then your phlox will even sow itself. If you would like to have strong plants early in the spring, then it is recommended to use the phlox as early as February or March in the greenhouse or on the windowsill.
