Less care through clever perennial choice
An easy-care perennial garden already starts with the selection of pasen plants, after all, some plants need much more attention than others. Those who do not work in the flowerbed but simply plant it and then enjoy it should first of all select the perennials according to these criteria:

Keep flowerbed free of weeds
This also has the advantage that less weed grows: Wherever hydrangeas and Co. spread, find message, yaw, dandelion and other weeds just no place to grow. Even overgrowing perennials quickly overgrow the flowerbed with a flowery carpet. They easily displace any unwanted herb. If you do not want to fall back on spreading or covering the ground - for example, because the flower bed is too small for that - you will instead use a light and air permeable weed fleece or mulch the bed with bark mulch. Even stone or pebble gardens need, once created, basically little attention.
Just let nature take its course
Probably the easiest to follow tip for a low maintenance flowerbed is probably this: Just sit back in your deckchair and let the garden be garden. The world will not perish if the foliage is not raked (quite the contrary, fall foliage is a valuable winter protection and good fertilizer!) Or the hornbeams diligently proliferate themselves. A natural garden might not seem "neat", but it provides an important habitat for many creatures, plenty of food, and allows its owner to sit back comfortably.
Tips
If you want to do as little work as possible, do not use delicate and non-frosty perennials such as dahlias, whose tubers have to be dug up each autumn in the fall and replanted in spring.
