Plant stones can be planted in many ways
Planting plant stones: herbs, flowers, woody plants and more
Planting stones are practical and look appealing. In addition, they are very versatile and can be designed and planted in a variety of ways. Here are some nice ideas for planting your plant stones.
Use plant stones sensibly
Of course, planting stones can be planted individually. However, it looks better if they are set up in interesting formations, act as a slope attachment or are used as curbs, for example for a bed, a herbal spiral or even a raised bed. If you did not have a specific plan for using your planters, you can simply build them into a kind of pyramid that you plant from all sides or just spontaneously create a flower bed.
In any case, it makes sense to put the plant stones offset to each other, so that each individual plant stone can be planted.
Which plants for the plant stones?
The climate in plant stones is usually a bit drier, as the water drains faster and they often get more sun. Therefore, you should plant more drought-tolerant and sun-loving plants in your underground stones.
Especially suitable for plant stones are:
Planting herbs with herbs
Herbs love sun and warmth. Therefore, they are particularly suitable for planting plant stones. Lavender is especially often grown here. But even these herbs feel very well in plant rings:
Plant only one plant per plant ring.
Upholstery plants for plant rings
Upholstery plants form a green carpet and often spread over the edge. In question here are e.g.
Hanging or climbing plants in plant stones
If planting stones are stacked on top of one another, there is little room left to plant, especially in the lower ones. If you still want to provide plenty of green, you can plant your planting stones with climbing or hanging plants. These then hang over the edge and thus provide a kind of green wall.
Succulents in plant stones
If you like modern and easy care and can do without flowers, you can plant your plant rings with succulents. They need little water and no pruning. In addition, they are usually hardy and can easily spend several years in the plant stones. Place grasses and decorative stones in between them and cover the surface with pebbles. Your rock garden is ready.
Flowering plant stones
A sea of โโflowers in the plant stones is welcome. Before you decide whether you want to dominate a color, combine two colors (blue and white makes a very noble-looking combination) or whether you want to let the planting stones bloom wildly colorful.
Plant woody plants in planting stones
Even small trees are suitable for planting stones, such as boxwood or bonsai versions of larger trees.
Grow strawberries in plant stones
Even strawberries can be grown in plant stones. Add some compost to the soil to provide enough nutrients. Choose a creeping variety that will then hang its delicious fruit over the edge.
