Peach Suncrest - the golden yellow
There are about 3,000 different types of peaches known worldwide, which can have large or small fruits, little or much fur, white, yellow, reddish or blood red pulp. But peaches differ not only in their appearance, but also in taste, in their robustness, their demands on location and temperature and their resistance to the widespread ruffling disease.
Peach Suncrest has big, sweet fruits
The variety Suncrest has, as its name suggests, large, juicy fruits with a golden yellow flesh. Its yellowish to orange-red peel is strongly red-flamed. The fruits are ripe relatively late and can be harvested between the end of August and mid-September, depending on the weather. The vigorously awake tree reaches an average size of between three and four meters.
Resistance to curling disease
In general, peaches with white pulp are considered to be more resistant to fungal diseases, in particular to the ragweed disease typical of peaches and also the common fruit rot of Monilia. At the same time, white-fleshed peaches are less palatable than their yellow-fleshed cousins. Whether that is really the case is of course a matter of taste. The lovers of juicy yellow fleshy varieties, however, can be happy because Suncrest is considered - as one of the few yellow peach varieties - as low sensitive to the aforementioned fungal diseases.
Robust variety with a large amount of sunshine
Originally the yellow-fleshed peach varieties originate from southern France, where they were bred out of white and red peaches. Accordingly, these varieties often need a lot of sun and heat; the peach Suncrest is no exception. At the same time, however, it is a rather robust variety, which thrives well in locations with less ideal conditions. The flowers, which break up early in the morning, can sometimes tolerate (not too deep) night frost, but should still be protected with the help of a fleece cover.
Good suitability as underlay for Red Haven
Because of its relative insensitivity to ruffling, Suncrest is considered to be a good base for peach Red Haven. This yellow-fleshed peach is one of the best peaches due to its taste, but is very susceptible to fungal diseases. This tendency can be counteracted by a refining.
Tips & Tricks
The ruffling disease can also be controlled by spraying with vinegar. To do this, mix vinegar and water in a ratio of 1: 1 and spray the tree with it. As a result, many, not even affected, leaves are likely to be dropped. But the mushroom will have worse chances next year.
