Although veterinary medicine does not confirm that orchids are poisonous, the warnings are mounting among cat lovers. For reasons of caution, we therefore recommend that you refrain from cultivating these exotic plants, even if scientifically based confirmations are lacking. At the very least, orchids should be out of reach of your baby tigers.
Symptoms of poisoning with orchids
Has your cat gnawed on orchid leaves, within a few hours typical symptoms of intoxication. These include disorientation, convulsions, vomiting and diarrhea. Please contact the veterinarian immediately to discuss the next steps. Ideally, bring the remaining parts of the plant into the practice so that the veterinarian can arrange the treatment accordingly.
Tips
Cat friends not only banish orchids out of the house. Outdoor should also be no orchids. This does not just apply to exotic species. Native orchids, such as shrubs or lady's slipper, tempt cats roaming the bed to nibble at the leaves.
