Oleander barely tolerates minus temperature
Even in the Mediterranean homeland of Oleanders, it can be very cold in winter. However, this is not the rule, so that the shrub - like other Mediterranean plants - is used to mild temperatures in the cold season. Light minus temperatures are still tolerated, but the thermometer falls well below zero, so you should bring the plant better in the house.
Oleander is not hardy
Like so many Mediterranean plants, Oleander is not frost resistant and therefore not hardy. Low frost to about minus five degrees Celsius is usually tolerated, but only very short-term - the shrub quickly gets frost damage, which manifests itself in brown, dried leaves and shoots. Leave the oleander outside in late autumn or mild winters, but provide it with cold protection at night (for example, a garden fleece) or, if the temperatures drop sharply, bring it to a cool, but frost-free room.

In principle, the oleander should remain outdoors for as long as possible and only then be released into winter quarters when the temperatures fall below zero. How much frost an oleander tolerates can not be fixed to specific degrees, but depends on the individual plant. Some oleander varieties (for example 'Papa Gambetta', 'Italia' or 'Lutein Plenum') are considered to be particularly frost-resistant, others are much more sensitive to the cold. Even older plants are more robust than young ones. However, a frost-free hibernation is advisable with every copy.
Tips
In summer, however, it can not be warm enough to the oleander, because he shows his flowers only in plenty of sun and heat. On the other hand, if it is cold and rainy, the hoped-for flowering can also be easy. In this case, clear the oleander in a conservatory - if any - and provide with plant lamps for sufficient brightness.
