The more sun, the luscious the oleander flower
In its Mediterranean homeland, the oleander prefers to grow in sunny locations near river banks. Although we can not conjure the typical Mediterranean climate in Germany, but with the right choice of location, it makes the bush very comfortable here.
Oleander needs a sunny and warm spot
As in his homeland, the oleander also needs a location in the blazing sun. The more light the plant gets, the more beautiful it will bloom - and the sunnier the summer, the longer it will show off its flowers. However, the sun is not enough to make the sensitive plant feel good. It should also be warm, because the oleander also tolerates drafts only badly. Furthermore, you should make sure, especially for varieties with filled flowers, that they do not get any rain. A pattering rain shower can spoil the whole flower and also cause a fungal infection. For this reason, it is best to place your oleander under a roof projection or the like to protect it from rainstorms. Of course the plant should not be in the shade there.
In rainy summers the flowering often fails
If the oleander does not really want to bloom, that is usually due to the weather. If the summer is rather cold and rainy, the bush lacks the warming sun and refuses to bloom. In such a case, you have no great options for action, except you put the bucket in the winter garden and provide with additional plant lights for more light. Unless you have a conservatory, you only have to protect the oleander from the rain.
Do not put in the sun immediately after the winter
Even if Oleander is a true sun-worshiper, after the winter you should not put him in the blazing sun. This is no longer used to the plant after a long time in relative darkness and may suffer a sunburn, in which the leaves quickly turn brown and dry. Such damage does not regenerate in the evergreen plant (unless the leaf is discarded and a new one grows) and therefore should be avoided for aesthetic reasons. So first put the oleander in the shade, and then slowly increase the hours of sunshine day by day.
Tips
For clearing from the winter quarters, we recommend to wait for a day with mild temperatures, but cloudy or overcast skies.
