When the 'Cold Sophie' leaves in the middle of May, the window opens for the planting of mint in the pot. Choose a vessel with a diameter of at least 30 centimeters. A floor opening as a drain is mandatory. Suitable substrate is loose herbal soil, optimized with compost, perlite, sand and horn shavings. How to plant the naturally grown or ready-bought mint:

In addition to the regular harvest, the shoots are cut off 10 centimeters above the ground shortly before flowering. This gardening trick preserves the aroma in the fresh shoot, which thrives thereupon. After the first frost cut the mint back near the ground, cover the substrate with brushwood and cover the pot in bubble wrap. In this way, the mint winters safely until next year.
