Hibernating a mimosa is not easy. Although mimosas are perennial plants, they are usually grown only once a year. But they are easy to multiply so that you can grow new plants every year. So the multiplication of a mimosa works guaranteed.

Multiply mimosa on cuttings or seeds

You can either grow mimosas from cuttings or you can get seeds to sow them out.

Cropping from cuttings is not necessarily recommended as the mimosa does not tolerate well when cut. Often, the mother plant is after.

The best time for propagation is early spring. Later in the year, it is not worthwhile to multiply a mimosa, as it survives the winter even worse.

Simply place cuttings in a water glass

To grow a mimosa from cuttings, you need a healthy mother plant. Cut one or more cuttings with a sharp knife.

Remove the bottom leaves and place the shoots in a glass of water. They form roots very quickly there. Once these have reached a length of about three to four centimeters, they are potted into a prepared planter. Be careful not to press the tender roots too hard.

Let the seeds soak in lukewarm water for at least half a day. Then sow them thinly and cover them only slightly with soil.

The seed must be kept slightly moist. Place the culture containers in a warm and bright place. Avoid direct sunlight.

Tips

Be sure to use germ-free soil for sowing. These are available from specialist retailers. You can also use normal garden soil, which you sterilize in the oven for half an hour at about 80 degrees.
