The real laurel (Laurus nobilis) is not only a valued spice and medicinal plant, it can be wintered in sheltered locations in this country sometimes in the field. This makes it a suitable plant variety for planting year-round evergreen and opaque hedges.
Cut cuttings from the mother plants
Since the true laurel can achieve quite strong increases per year at a certain age, the cuttings propagation within the general pruning of the plants is a viable option for propagation. The best time for the propagation of laurel by cuttings is in August and September. Then cut branches at least 20 cm from the laurel bush and remove the lower leaves. It is important that they cut half-ripe cuttings if possible. This means that the respective shoots should not be quite old and woody, but it should not be synonymous with very fresh shoots with light green, soft leaves.
The right substrate for the propagation of laurel through cuttings
Basically, it is important for all types of cuttings propagation that the cuttings are placed in a substrate with a uniform moisture. Therefore, mix a certain amount of peat and sand under a humus-rich and loose growth substrate.
