Mildew occurs only very rarely in privet
Mildew rarely occurs in privet
If in summer a whitish deposit on the leaves of the Ligusters shows, it is usually powdery mildew. But you do not have to panic. The privet usually gets along well with such a fungal attack alone.
Mildew on privet is usually harmless
Mildew does not look pretty good on privet, but fungal infection is not dangerous for a healthy privet. After dropping leaves in winter, the problem usually resolves itself.
Sprays should be better avoided in the interest of the environment. Even home remedies can hardly be used in a privet hedge.
If necessary, cut off all affected shoots and dispose of them with household waste.
Tips
If the privet gets yellow leaves in the summer, this is often due to an oversupply of nutrients. To prevent this discoloration, check if you need to fertilize at all. Use organic fertilizer like a mulch cover to avoid over-fertilization.
