With a Euro pallet you can easily create a vertical herb garden

DIY herb garden in Euro pallet

Do you happen to have an old Euro pallet lying around somewhere? If so, now has the right time for their use. From such a simple wooden pallet not only all kinds of great DIY furniture can be built, but also a space-saving herb garden for the balcony, terrace or the small garden.

Building a vertical herb garden in the Euro pallet

You do not even have to be very skilled at making the palette a herbal garden. Basically, you just have to trim and screw on floors and the resulting flower boxes lined with pond liner o. Ä. Done is the homemade herb garden!

You need that

On materials you need:

as well as appropriate tools:

This is how it is built

If you have all the materials together, you can now start building. First of all, turn the pallet around and measure how long and wide the bottom of the three future "flower boxes" must be. Then cut three pase floors out of the narrow wooden slat and fasten them well. Once done, all you have to do is cover the "flower boxes" with foil and tackle them - ready. The rest is only fine work, which you can do just the whim or not. The herbal palette can be nicely decorated with blackboard foil and ropes, smooth sanding and painting / color painting or whatever else comes to beautify you.

Plant the pallet correctly

In the resulting flower boxes fill suitable herb substrate, the composition of which depends entirely on the desired species. Mediterranean herbs get a lean, sandy substrate, other culinary herbs, however, a fuller mix than floral and herbal soil and some sand. Do not forget to put a few centimeters smaller pebbles or similar under the substrate as drainage - waterlogging is finally fatal for most herbs. In a commercial Euro pallet with three "flower boxes" around 12 different herbs fit into it. Of course, the exact number depends primarily on the size of the selected species and how often you want to harvest them. Allow the plants enough air and light to help them grow healthily.

Which herbs are suitable for planting the palette?

Basically, all leaf and flower herbs are actually suitable for cultivation in the herbal range. Only root herbs such as horseradish do not thrive under these conditions, after all, the space available is quite limited. When planting the boxes, make sure that you always put together herbs with similar moisture and nutrient needs - combinations like parsley and rosemary may not be understood too well. For example, plant the top row (where a lot of sun is shining) with Mediterranean herbs, including with specialties such as coriander, basil, mint or various wild herbs and the lowest with common culinary herbs such as parsley, chives and chervil.

Tips

Always attach the herbal range well, for example to a wall or with the help of support posts. For example, if it is a privacy screen in the garden, you can embed it in concrete. This fuse is necessary so that the whole construction does not fall over at the next breeze.
