If you are too annoyed by the need to frequently dig up compost, you can make it easier. A compost drum can be turned and mixes the compost all by itself. How do you build a compost drum yourself?

Compost drums are available in stores. They are quite expensive though. With a few simple materials, you can also build the drum yourself.

Drill holes in the bottom and the lid through which the PVC pipe passes.
To ensure that the compost bin is adequately ventilated, numerous small holes with a diameter of approximately 2.5 cm are drilled on the sides.
Cut out a small flap that you can attach to the barrel with the hinges. Through this flap you can fill fresh material in the bin and remove the finished compost. For very large drums, it makes sense to attach a handle. They are otherwise difficult to turn.
Hang the compost drum for turning
The tube with the drum is placed over the saw blocks. Fill compost starters or put a few scoops of mature compost in the bin. Since the tons composter is not on earth, no microorganisms can settle by themselves.
After each refill, turn the barrel several times so that the materials mix well again.
Occasionally check that the compost material is still sufficiently moist. If necessary, you should spray the material with a little water. Compost should not be kept too wet or too dry.

In order for the compost to rot well, high temperatures must be generated inside. Therefore, put the compost bin in a warm location, preferably in the sun.
If the bin itself is very bright, you should paint it dark with appropriate color. As a result, the sunlight is absorbed and the content heats up faster.
Tips
Another undeniable advantage of the rotatable compost bin is that rats and mice have no access. In addition, the compost material can not dry out so fast.
