Unfortunately, the experts are not in agreement on this point. Some say that nasturtium is spared by snails, while others say that snails really like nasturtium, and that they can even be used to protect other plants from snails.
The nasturtium as a lure
At least for lice, you can use nasturtium as a bait. It is so popular with aphids that they stay away from other potentially more valuable plants nearby. For this reason, for example, nasturtium is often planted between roses or next to beds of roses.
Of course, these plants are not suitable for consumption, but they are nevertheless decorative. Plant the nasturtium you want to eat on another place in your vegetable garden. There you can keep pests like snails and lice as far away as possible.
The best snail protection
The best ecological snail protection is still the collection and destruction of the snails. Especially when a heavy downpour follows a prolonged dry period, you should go for a snail search. You will certainly be able to count on a success.
If you have a paradise in your garden for beneficial insects, such as birds, hedgehogs or stalking, they will thank you by keeping your garden almost snail-free. Also, make sure you have a fine crumbly soil that snails do not like very much.
