Currants: Well-known varieties for growing in the garden
Currants are available in the three colors red, white and black. They differ in the care and especially the cut. Not as a berry bush, but only as an ornamental plant the blood currant is pulled.

When buying, make sure you have resistant currant varieties that are resistant to currant diseases and pests.
Red currants
They are the best known currants. They are characterized by their fresh red color. The taste is sweet with a slightly acidic undertone.
Blackcurrants
The aroma of fresh black currants is not for everyone because of the harsh taste. Because of the high acid content, they are mainly processed with much sugar to desserts, jelly and juice.
Whitecurrants
White currants are not as aromatic and slightly milder than the red varieties.
Blood currants or ornamental currants
They are pulled exclusively for their beautiful spring bloom. On long panicles, numerous small buds in bright red form. Also white and red-white varieties are already on the market.
The plant produces few fruits, which hardly have their own flavor and therefore are not suitable for consumption. The berries are not poisonous.
Tips & Tricks
Blackcurrants are called Cassis in French. They are the basis for all desserts, liqueurs and other dishes, with the tart-spicy taste of black berries.
