Since around the end of the 19th century, the green lily from South Africa has been used as a houseplant in Europe. In principle, all types are suitable for this purpose. Make sure that the plant has enough space, because the long narrow leaves are the best hanging. If they hit a surface, the tips can turn brown.
The offshoots form on drooping shoots, they can be up to 70 cm long depending on the species. This gives your green lily a lush and exotic look. The plant looks especially beautiful in a decorative traffic light. Leave all offshoots on the plant, of course, it needs more water and possibly also some fertilizer.
The different types of green lily
The wild form of the green lily has simply green leaves. The species "Chlorophytum comosum" is considered the most common species. The variety "Manaianum" forms especially small leaves with a length of 10 to 15 cm. They are dark green and have a yellow central stripe. So they are also suitable for smaller rooms. Very decorative is also the variety Chlorophytum amaniense with its bronze-colored leaves.
