Why does not Weigelie flourish?
Even though the Weigelie can basically be described as easy to care for, there are nevertheless a few reasons why their usual blossoms are missing. In most cases, these are due to the location or the care, diseases are rather rare in the Weigelie.
In addition to lack of light, a wrongly performed pruning is a common cause of a sparse or non-existent flowering. If you cut the weigela back in the fall, you run the risk of accidentally cutting off the flower buds for the coming year. These are formed before the winter and not on the young spring shoots in the year of flowering.
But not only too much cutting harms the flowering of your Weigelie, but too little. If she is not circumcised for several years, then she tends to aging. The old shoots increasingly lignify and form no flowers and only a few fresh shoots.
