Buds dry up on geranium - What to do?
If the geraniums - often just at the beginning of the growing season - do not want to bloom, but rather dry up and fall off the buds, there are several reasons for this. It must not necessarily be up to you and your care, even a bad weather conditions for geraniums as well as an insufficient hardening by the producing nursery can cause this phenomenon. Affected geraniums, however, usually recover very quickly, blooming only a little later than originally thought.

The first possible cause of the dehydrating buds is a lack of light in question. This may be due to a wrong location, but also in adverse weather conditions - for example, because the spring is cold, dark and rainy. In this case only helps to protect the geraniums and to hope for better weather. However, if the location is too dark from the outset, then only switching to a sunnier location will help.
Wrong care
Also, the sensitive geraniums do not tolerate high humidity and should therefore be watered only moderately. If you keep your plants too moist, the buds can also dry up and fall off. Therefore, always water the plants only when the substrate has already dried on the surface. However, lack of or wrong fertilization can also be the cause, for example because you fertilize too much / too little or with the wrong remedy.
Diseases / pests
On the other hand, if the flowers or buds turn yellowish or white, and finally fall off, the Botrytis mushroom is often behind it. This causes gray mold and attacks geraniums, especially if they are too moist, the humidity (with simultaneous heat) is very high or you fertilize the plants to nitrogen-rich.
Plants were not sufficiently hardened
Last but not least, the buds dry up without you being responsible. If you have recently bought your geranium in bloom and the buds have dried up, the plant needs to get used to the new location. Presumably, she was previously in a well-heated greenhouse and suddenly finds himself transitioning on a drafty balcony. She must first process this shock, but she will also bloom profusely after three to four weeks at the latest.
Tips
Also, be careful not to plant the geraniums too closely. Keep a planting distance of 30 to 40 centimeters.
