Stone bed surrounds are attractive in both natural and modern gardens, and they also score for their durability.
Ideas for stone framing
For stone bed surrounds, you can use a wide variety of stone: natural stones (eg basalt, sandstone, granite), concrete blocks, paving stones or clinker make uncomplicated solutions. The borders can be increased slightly or even at ground level - for example, as a paved path framed by curbs. Reddish clinker and other paving stones are equally suitable for both purposes: You can create them as a narrow circulating band or embed edgewise in the ground. In particular for slope beds higher stone palisades are interesting, with which height differences can be compensated. No matter which solution you choose, a bedding border made of stone usually requires a foundation. For low walls, however, it is sufficient to excavate a shallow trench, fill it with sand, gravel and gravel and then shake it well. Lay these on the consolidated sand foundation so that the differently shaped stones fit together and do not wobble. Gravel and potting soil fill in smaller gaps and provide more stability. If it is too high, it may rob the plants in the bed valuable light.
