Before the gardener can harvest, he has to work first. So that the vegetable seedlings grow and thrive, the soil should be well prepared - this is the only way to create optimal conditions for growing and maturing. The preparation for the new vegetation season already begins in autumn.
Soil care takes place already in autumn
Already at the end of the growing season, the soil care begins with the removal of the last vegetable crops and the digging and / or plowing of the soil. Especially loamy and heavy soils should be dug up in the fall to ensure good ventilation and sufficient looseness. During the cold winter months, the ground has time to sit down and is also "broken" by the frost. This in turn facilitates the finer soil cultivation in the spring. Another advantage of autumn digging is that soil pests and snails (which hibernate in the soil) are removed by digging.
Prepare soil for the new plantation in spring
But beware: especially very humus and light soils should not be dug up. As a result, the structure gets mixed up in these soils, so that the humus is degraded faster. Such garden floors are to be loosened with a grave fork and a sow tooth only. Much more important anyway is the finishing, which takes place in early spring and ensures the fine crumb so important for planting and sowing. For this you need tools such as rake, rake and sow tooth with which a feinkrümelige structure and a flat plant bed can be achieved. However, do not carry out this work on very damp floors, but rather wait for drier days - otherwise the fine crumb will be missing at the end.
