Garden hydrangeas like it sunny
Garden hydrangeas prefer a sunny location
The flowers of garden hydrangeas, which - depending on the variety - are tightly ball-shaped or loosely plate-shaped and can have up to 20 centimeters in diameter, always offer a special eye-catcher. These magnificent, lush specimens, however, show only the right location.
Garden hydrangeas love the light
Hydrangea is not the same as hydrangea, because as with appearance and growth form, there are also considerable differences between the different species when it comes to lighting requirements at the location. Hydrangea macrophylla, as the garden hydrangea is botanically correct, prefers a sunny to light shade of cookies with predominantly direct sunlight.
Beware of late frosts
The radiation of the winter sun can be problematic for the garden hydrangeas that bloom on the old wood. Especially in the late winter, the bud growth is stimulated early, with the risk that late frosts lead to a total failure of the flower in the following summer. Here you should give preference to a protected place in partial shade.
Tips & Tricks
Late frosts also lose their horror when you choose one of the new, perennial varieties (such as Endless Summer) that will bloom on both old and new wood.
