The Flaming Katy has to spend the winter inside
Flaming Katie is not hardy
From about February to June, Flaming Kathe delights his viewers with a lush flowering. The plant is considered quite undemanding, but is usually thrown away after flowering. However, this is not necessary, because the Kalanchoe - as the Flammende Käthchen is also called - can be hibernate uncomplicated and bring with a few tricks in the following years to a renewed flowering.
Flaming Katy comes from Madagascar
The Flammende Käthchen belongs to the genus Kalanchoe, which in turn is counted among the family of the thick-leafed plants. The succulent plant also bears the nickname Madagascar bell, which in turn indicates its origin. The pretty plant is native to the African island of Madagascar and is adapted to a hot and very dry climate. With us, too, Flaming Katy feels most comfortable in a sunny, warm and sheltered - especially rain-protected - location. Of course, the plant originating from the tropics is not hardy for us - on the contrary, because the temperatures should not fall below 10 ° C even in winter, optimally 15 to 22 ° C.
Hibernate Käthchen properly
Under these conditions, the Flammende Käthchen can be easily overwintered in the living room, provided the other conditions are right there.
Think of the next blossom already in winter
During the winter months you must prepare the plant already for the next flowering period, because the Kalanchoe only forms buds if it receives no more than nine hours of light per day for a few weeks - no matter whether natural or artificial origin. You should simulate these conditions at home so that you can still enjoy the pretty flowers in the following year.
Tips
If you cut back the Flaming Käthchen after flowering, then it drives new and stronger. Immediately after flowering, the plant can sometimes be "persuaded" into a second flower, if you pluck the blooms immediately.
