Toxic ingredients in fennel
In fact, carcinogenic substances such as estragole and methyleugenol can be partially detected in fennel teas. This is particularly problematic because of the fact that pregnant women and toddlers often consume fennel tea in larger quantities. In contrast, poisoning with Pyrrolizidinalkaloiden can be excluded in the self-cultivation of fennel, as this can only get into the fennel tea in the mechanical harvest in large-scale production.
