In the milder regions of Germany, there is a sheltered spot in the garden where the fig, with its broad crown and gnarled trunk, becomes an attractive woodland. In rougher areas you can plant fig trees, which were allowed to grow in the tub for two to three years, directly on the wall of the house. Since the figs can tolerate cutbacks well, you can use them as decorative trellises. The southern ambience in the city radiates a fig tree, which you maintain in a warm and light-flooded courtyard.

Figs can be cultivated well in the bucket. You will feel very comfortable in the summer months on a sunny balcony or on the terrace. In mild regions you can overwinter the potted plants with some winter protection in a sheltered corner of the patio and do not have to bring the plants into the house.
The suitable winter quarters
In harsh areas it is advisable to cultivate the figs in a frost-free room during the winter months. As the fig throws off its foliage in the fall, it hardly needs light and can also be wintered in the dark garage or basement room.
As soon as no frost is expected, the fig can move outside. Please do not expose the plant to full sun immediately. The leaves of the fig react without habituation to the UV light much like the human skin with a sunburn, which can weaken the wood.
