With their upright gait and long neck, running ducks are unmistakable. The flightless waterbirds are also very agile, like to run and swim for their lives. Until Gärtner recognized their qualities as beneficials, the cute ducklings were mainly kept for their tasty eggs. The following basic elements make life easy for you and your active ducks in the garden:
Please take into account that pensioners are very sociable. Therefore, do not associate a lonely life as a loner with a duck or a drake. Ideally, you settle the waterfowl as a small herd or at least in a double pack. For the sake of peace, you can choose to keep a pure male duck family or a drake and several ducks. With a single lady and numerous armies anger and permanent, loud chatter are inevitable.

The bigger the garden, the more natural food is available for your active ducks. On top of the menu are snails, their larvae and eggs as well as insects, small animals and pests. Nevertheless, it should be fed regularly, especially in winter and on smaller areas. Well suited is grain feed for chickens. Food leftovers from the lunch menu do not spurn the birds either. Gladly noodles, potatoes or rice are consumed. Spicy foods, on the other hand, cause the animals discomfort.
Tips
If you are rearranging a garden or a bed, the ducks should stay in the enclosure for about 2 weeks. Otherwise, the tender seedlings fall victim to the hungry beaks. If perennials and flowers have grown well, running ducks no longer cause any significant feeding damage.
