Pull your own oak in the garden
The pulling of an oak is not very expensive. However, you need a bit of patience and, above all, a lot of space, because the crown of the tree tends to spread. What you should consider when planting an oak.
Oak trees need a lot of space
These are the points you must keep in mind if you want to grow an oak tree in the garden:
The site
Oaks can get very old. The place where you plant the oak should therefore be well chosen.
The tree will stand there for many years and in the course of time become bigger and bigger. You can transplant older oaks only with great effort. Mostly the trees are damaged irreparably.
Do not plant oak trees near the road or at the house. Also to water pipes and other pipes, the distance should be large enough.
The soil texture
It does not matter so much. On a nutritious ground, oak trees grow very well. Since the taproot of an oak grows very deep into the soil, a sufficient nutrient supply is usually no problem.
To grow a young oak, you should loosen the soil well before planting. Through a mulch cover you provide the young tree with sufficient nutrients in the upper part of the soil. The blanket also keeps the weeds out.
The care
For young trees you should make sure that the soil is moist enough, with older oaks this is no longer necessary.
You do not need to fertilize older oak trees.
Crop oaks
Basically, you can just let the oak grow. Its natural, irregular shape gives this deciduous tree its characteristic appearance.
However, oak trees tend to accumulate much deadwood as they get older. Dead branches can break during storms and thus pose a danger to passers-by.
Deadwood and sick branches should therefore be removed regularly.
Tips & Tricks
If there is not enough room in the garden for an oak, try pulling a bonsai oak. Oak trees are particularly well suited to this method because they grow very old and grow slowly.
