How to cultivate edelweiss in a pot
The beautiful edelweiss with its star-shaped, velvety hairy inflorescences is suitable for planting both in the garden and in the pot. Take special care with a pot, as the pretty flower is extremely sensitive to moisture.
Select a site location
The distinctive edelweiss is not suitable for an attitude as a houseplant, as it is not sufficiently supplied with sunlight in such a case. Potted edelweiss should therefore find its place on a sunny balcony or terrace. However, especially on hot days, make sure that the root area of the plant remains cool, as overheating does not like the flowering or wetness. Basically, however, the more sunshine the edelweiss gets, the better.

Planting edelweiss in a pot is especially advisable if your garden is often visited by many snails - the plant is a sought-after food for the ravenous animals.
Optimal care for potted edelweiss
Edelweiss in the pot is cared for as well as in the garden planted specimens, you only need to water more often. However, be careful not to over-pour. Instead, it is sufficient to wet the substrate superficially. Fertilization is not necessary, instead you can transplant the edelweiss about every one to two years. In winter, the plant remains outside, but should be packed properly as protection against cold or buried together in the pot in the garden.
Tips & Tricks
As soon as your edelweiss dries from below, it is usually not a sign of dryness but - paradoxically - a sign that the plant is too moist. Root rot causes the plant to be unable to absorb enough water to dry out. Most plants with root rot are beyond saving, however, you can start a trial and repot the edelweiss in fresh, dry substrate.
