Calla fertilize properly - instinct needed
The room calla likes a nutrient-rich soil and must be additionally fertilized during the growing time. However, it must not be too much fertilizer, because an excessive concentration of nutrients does not tolerate the plant.
Which fertilizer is suitable?
A simple flower fertilizer from the hardware store is enough. Be sure to follow the instructions on the packaging when dispensing. The old sentence "Much helps a lot" is not correct when fertilizing Calla. Take less than too much fertilizer.
If you fertilize too much or too often, Calla may not budge or even flower.
Fertilize depending on the growth phase
The nutrient requirement of the Zimmercalla depends on the three phases of growth:
Before flowering, the plant needs less fertilizer than during flowering. It is not allowed to fertilize in winter.
Fertilize Calla properly before flowering
The growth phase begins immediately after hibernation. If you have just planted the Calla in new soil, you do not need to give fertilizer.
If it continues to grow in the previous pot, start fertilizing as soon as the first green tips appear.
During this time, fertilize the plant every two weeks.
Calla fertilize during flowering
The nutrient requirement of the houseplant is particularly high during flowering. Once buds have formed, add fertilizer to the irrigation water once a week.
Calla fertilize in winter
After flowering the calla goes into the hibernation in the pot. During this time she needs neither water nor nutrients.
Under no circumstances should you provide the plant with fertilizer during the rest period. You must not even water them, so that the earth dries out completely.
Of course, if you overwinter the room calla as a flower bulb without any soil, the question of fertilization does not arise.
Tips & Tricks
Calla does not need any special potting soil.Normal potting soil or garden soil is sufficient. The important thing is that the earth is fresh and free of fungal spores and other diseases. If in doubt, better buy new earth.
