The pretty Korbmarante needs some care, but it has a big advantage. It is not poisonous and can therefore be safely drawn in every household.
The name "arrowroot" owes it to the fact that it is the source of antidote to the dread poison dreaded in South America. Previously, the Korbmarante was used as a medicinal plant. In today's natural medicine but it does not matter anymore. On the contrary, it is rather advised against the use, even if the calathea contains no poisonous components.
The name Korbmarante was given to the Calathea, because the pretty patterned leaves were used by the Brazilian natives to weave baskets.
Calathea is not easy to care for
Calathea is at home in the Brazilian rainforest. It is always wet there. However, direct sunlight does not get the plant.
In the care in the house these living conditions of the Korbmarante must be taken into account. The plant should never completely dry out, because then the leaves can hang down and even break. Direct sunlight causes the leaves to curl up or discolour.
A peculiarity of Calathea is that the leaves move to a sleeping position at night and stand up. This is a natural process.

What applies to humans, in this case also applies to pets such as cats and dogs. Animal lovers can buy a Calathea without any concerns. In front of her there is no danger for the animal house dwellers.
