Increase beech hedge itself - how it works!
A beautiful, dense beech hedge is the dream of many gardeners. But the price for the young trees makes many of them shy away from it. If you spend some time and patience, you can simply multiply your beech hedge yourself. It will take longer, but later it will be your pride and joy.
Methods to multiply a beech hedge yourself
To increase a beech hedge yourself, you have several options:
For all methods you need healthy beech from which you can collect seeds or cut cuttings.
Sow beech
Beech pickers collect in the fall from a freestanding beech that is at least 30 years old.
The seeds must undergo a cold phase before sowing to overcome the germ inhibition. To do this, put them in the fridge for a few weeks and sow in small pots in the spring.
How to win cuttings
Cut cuttings in late summer. Choose semi-woody shoots that you either put in small pots of garden soil or directly in the ground.
Use plywood. These are cuttings where the tip was cut. Make sure you put the cuttings in the ground with the right side.
Propagation by sinkers
To lower, bend a not too heavily lignified shoot on the ground. Cut it in several times with a knife and cover it with soil. However, this form of propagation does not work as well as breeding cuttings.

For those in a hurry it certainly makes more sense to buy the beech trees for a hedge, larger plants already, so that the beech hedge quickly becomes dense.
Booking to multiply yourself is laborious. It takes a few years longer for a higher density, higher hedge to emerge. However, it often turns out that even beech hedges are more robust and grow faster.
