So plant your mango tree properly
If you want to plant a mango tree, plan generously. Because even as a room or balcony plant, the mango tree can grow up to two meters and needs a correspondingly large pot and enough space.
The right location
The mango tree likes it warm and humid. As a houseplant he is therefore particularly good in the kitchen or in the bathroom. Here he finds the high humidity that he needs for a good thriving.
In summer, you can also put your mango on the balcony or terrace when it is at least two years old, even temporarily in the blazing sun. In the short term, it also tolerates cooler temperatures, so it can stay out overnight.
The best potting soil
Mango trees do not like lime, so potting soil should be slightly acidic. Waterlogging must be avoided at all costs. Ensure a good drainage of excess irrigation water and use permeable soil for young plants.Older mango trees also tolerate slightly loamy soil. Ideal is a mixture of coconut fibers, garden soil and compost to about equal parts.
The right planter
Mango trees belong to the deep roots, that is, their roots grow less in breadth, but very deep. That's why they need a tall pot. To give the tree sufficient stability, the planter should not be too light. Otherwise your mango could tip over during a stronger gust of wind.
Repot the mango tree
Mango trees do not need to be repotted often, but planting in the garden is not recommended as the plants are not frost hardy. If your mango tree is about 30 to 40 centimeters tall, then you should repot it for the first time. Then it only has to be repotted when the planter is too small.
To multiply the mango tree
Since a mango tree in our latitudes bears little fruit, growing for the purpose of harvesting and propagating from its own seeds is almost impossible. You can, however, pull a new mango from the core of a mature purchased fruit or try propagating with the help of a cuttings.
Place the cuttings in growing medium and place in a warm, light place. Always keep the substrate moist. Ideally, the soil temperature is always about 22 to 30 ° C. Most likely, you can provide these conditions to your cuttings by pulling it under a foil or in a greenhouse.
