Although the common beech is also called beech, the leaves are green. The name red beech refers to the wood, which has a slightly reddish color.
Leaves hang long on the beech
A peculiarity of the beech is the fact that the foliage does not fall off in the fall. It does dry up, but often remains hanging on the tree until the new leaves sprout. That's why beech trees are well suited as hedge plants because they provide good visibility even in winter.
Detecting diseases on the leaves
If the leaves show spots, curl up or dry out prematurely, this is a sign that the book is missing something. With dried leaves you should check whether the beech has enough moisture or if it is even in waterlogged condition. Both causes the leaves are no longer properly supplied.
