Whilst brambles bred for growing in the garden tend to reproduce only moderately over root shoots, wild blackberry plants can become a nuisance in a garden.

Blackberry roots produce new shoots and tendrils every year in the garden bed, forming aromatic, black fruits. As long as this is desired in a garden, the unbelievable vitality is not a problem, which in the case of blackberries feeds itself from the root even with a complete pruning. The whole thing can be a problem for you, if you want to end the tour of blackberries in one location. Especially when it comes to wild blackberry varieties.

The most success for a permanent removal of blackberry plants offers a combination of two techniques. To do this, first the soil is completely dug up, so that all discoverable blackberry roots can be removed with a hoe. Then the floor is covered with a thick, black tarpaulin for at least two years so that no new tendrils of blackberries can be cast out underneath.
