The Amberbaum is one of the largest deciduous trees in Europe. It reaches a height between 20 and 45 m. But in this country he only achieves these proportions in exceptional cases. In his homeland they are not uncommon.
In our climate, the sweetgum usually grows 15 to 20 m high. Its growth range is on average 4 to 6 m. A width of up to 10 m is the exception. To reach these dimensions in height and width, it does not take too long (20 to 50 cm per year).
The growth changes with time
By nature, the sweetgum has a shapely growth. Often he is multi-stemmed. The mainspring is continuous and initially the tree forms a narrow pyramidal to conical crown. This is moderately translucent.
With age, the crown becomes egg-shaped. The main branches are upright while the lateral branches are horizontal to sloping. In old age, a rounded and open crown has usually developed.
Rather large-growth specimens
