Anyone can buy zucchini plants - also prefer on the windowsill
The sunny windowsill is a good place to grow zucchini plants yourself. Sowing is easy, for germination rich water, heat and light. Thus, after only a few weeks, small plants emerge from the approximately 1 cm seeds.

The seed you can easily get in the garden market or choose from the large range of online shipping. A seed bag usually contains 7 to 10 seeds. This is enough for a family, even after the piking.
Another option is to grow the seed from fully mature fruits. The seeds are removed, dried on kitchen paper for 2 to 3 days, cleaned and stored until dry next spring.
Sowing, germination duration, pikieren
It starts in the middle of April: First, you fill the pots with soil and put the seeds 2 to 3 cm deep into it. Then you can carefully pour them and put the pots on the sunny windowsill.
After 6 to 14 days, the first seedlings show up. During this time, the earth must always be kept moist. If several seedlings develop per pot, only the stronger one is allowed to stand. The weaker ones are carefully removed by hand.
As the young plants grow, you can put them in the sun for a few hours. This is especially recommended if they gradually become too big for the windowsill.
The planting out
About 4 weeks after sowing, the plants are large enough to be moved outdoors or in a balcony tub. It is good, if you wait for the Eisheiligen in the middle / end of May. Without damaging the delicate bale, carefully remove the plants from the pot and place them in the prepared planting holes in the vegetable or flowerbed or in the large tub.

The name Zucchini derives from the Italian word "Zucca" and means little pumpkin. While the pumpkins come from America, zucchini were first grown in Italy in the 17th century.
