When is a mango ripe?

A ripe mango can be recognized from afar by its intense scent. Take the fruit in your hand, then gives the bowl with a light finger pressure. But do not press the mango too hard, otherwise there will soon be an ugly brown fouling place. On the stem approach the pulp is so plump that the stalk protrudes slightly.


In contrast, the color says nothing about the degree of ripeness of a mango. You will find both green fully ripe fruits as well as bright red or orange-red fruits that are still very hard and immature. The different types of mangoes are colored very differently.

How do you best mature a mango?

If the mangoes are still immature when you buy them, you have to take action yourself. Wrap your mango in newspaper and put the package in a warm place, then the mango will ripen in a short time.

Make sure your mango does not spoil. Check at least once a day. An alternative to newsprint is ripe apples. They release a gas that ripens other fruits faster.

Tips & Tricks

Do not store ripe mangoes in the fridge. They quickly lose their taste there. If you do not use your mangoes right away, freezing is the better alternative.
