How to properly fertilize your room palms - tips and tricks
There is no standardized care that is right for all indoor palms, there are just too many different types. It is not always easy to determine, because some "palm trees" are botanically no palm tree.
For example, the Yucca is a palmlilie and belongs to the family of asparagus plants. The dragon tree is not just a single plant, it even forms its own genus with about 50 different species. The most famous is the Canarian Dragon Tree. Due to the different genera with sometimes very different countries of origin and climatic preferences also explains the often very different nutrient requirements.
How much fertilizer does my palm tree need?
Many room palms are quite easy and frugal. You only need fertilizer in the growth phase. A fertilizer about every two to four weeks is usually sufficient. Freshly repotted, you should give your palm a few weeks no fertilizer, the fresh potting soil contains enough nutrients.
Too much fertilizer is often more harmful to palms than too little to fertilize. The slower your palm grows, the less fertilizer you will need. If you fertilize too much your palm may get.
It is also important to water properly
You should always water a yucca palm if the top layer of soil has dried slightly. The situation is similar with the hemp palm, here too the soil is allowed to dry slightly. The coconut palm needs plenty of water, at least in spring and autumn, as well as the mountain palm. But be sure to avoid waterlogging on any palm tree.
At least as important as the correct water supply and fertilization is the required humidity. This should be between 70 and 80 percent for the coconut palm. Occasionally sprinkle your palm with lime-free water or place a humidifier near your palm.
